Forclime Programme Structure

THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE DED

DED Indonesia contributes to the “Forestry programme“ in the priority area “Climate Change” of the German development cooperation. DED supports and assists efforts to accelerate institutional and technical capacity for forestry staffs in East and West Kalimantan to enable sustainable forest management, improve living conditions of indigenous groups, reduce illegal logging and decrease emission of environmentally relevant gases through deforestation. Therefore DED dispatches European experts to forest departments on provincial and district level that provide advisory services in the fields of:

  1. Geographic Information Systems
  2. Remote sensing for carbon accounting
  3. Non timber forest products
  4. Nature conservation and tourism
  5. Community-Based forest development

The national partner of DED is the Center for Forestry Education and Training (PUSDIKLAT) in Bogor. Currently DED dispatches experts to the forestry departments in the Province of West- Kalimantan, the District of Kapuas Hulu and the Municipality of Tarakan.  Further experts for the District of Malinau and for the Regional Training Center of the Ministry of Forestry in Samarinda will arrive in 2010.

HOW THE DED OPERATES

The German Development Service (DED) is a nonprofit governmental organization, which works on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

DED dispatches European experts at the request of governmental and nongovernmental organizations in its partner countries and on the basis framework agreements with the respective governments.

DED experts are professionally experienced and socially committed persons that engage in development cooperation mainly in training, advisory capacity and planning tasks. They work fully embedded in their local partner organisations for two to five years. Thus DED also promotes understanding for the situation of people in developing countries among the European public and draws attention to questions concerning the common interests and problems of the one World. Since its founding in 1963, DED has dispatched more than 16.000 experts and is actually active in 47 countries.

In Indonesia, DED is active since 2005 and currently employs up to 30 seconded and 30 local experts in partner organizations at the provincial, district, and municipal level within the three priority areas of German-Indonesian development cooperation.
