For the purpose of environmental management in West Kalimantan province, the Provincial Service of Public Housing, Settlement and Environment conducted a meeting to discuss the draft of the Regional Regulations on Environmental Protection and Management Plan (Perda RPPLH) on 12 November in Pontianak. The event was a continuation of the previous discussions held in August and October. This meeting aims to get input on the draft regulation. 60 participants attended the meeting, representing local governments, academia and environmental activists from West Kalimantan, and the Drafting Team. The event was organized by the Provincial Service of Public Housing, Settlement and Environment in collaboration with FORCLIME.

On his opening speech, the Head of Provincial Service of Public Housing, Settlement and Environment, stressed that the drafted regulation has an important function to harmonize policies related to environmental management, to avoid overlapping regulations, claiming authority, and avoid contradictions in case environmental problems occur.

Afterwards, the meeting’s results will be discussed with the local parliament to determine a Regional Regulation of West Kalimantan Province.
