The German Ambassador visited the Makassar Environment and Forestry Training Center and the Makassar Forestry Vocational School on 26 January 2023. This visit was intended to observe the progress of the on-going Indonesia - Germany cooperation, particularly with regard to the capacity building that is being im-plemented through the Forests and Climate Change Programme (FORCLIME).

During her visit, the German Ambassador, Ina Lepel, was received by the Head of the Environmental and Forestry HR Training Center, Dr. Kusdamayanti Duryat, as the representative of the HR Extension and Development Agency (BP2SDM) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF), and was accompanied by the Head of the Makassar Environment and Forestry Training Center, the Head of the Makassar Forestry Vocational School and several officials from the KLHK technical implementation unit in Makassar. In terms of the LHK Training Center and the Makassar Forestry Vocational School, these two agencies are technical implementing units of BP2SDM at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. The main task of the Environment and Forestry Training Center is to manage training in relation to apparatus and non-apparatus within the environmental and forestry sector. Meanwhile, the Makassar Forestry Vocational School is a forestry vocational school that is organized and fostered by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Culture.

During the German Ambassador's visit, the Head of the Human Resources Training Center for Environment and Forestry expressed her appreciation for the German government's support for the development of the capacity of Human Resources for Environment and Forestry through the Forests and Climate Change Programme (FORCLIME). The Ambassador expressed her hope that this cooperation can be continued into the future. In addition, the Makassar Environment and Forestry Training Center and the Makassar Forestry Vocational School delivered presentations that addressed the development of vocational training and education, including suggestions for developing the capacity of teachers through overseas internships.

At the Makassar Forestry Vocational School, the German Ambassador visited the school’s various facilities, including a tissue culture laboratory, a forest plant nursery and a waste bank. The German Ambassador's visit was the first by a high-ranking foreign official to the Makassar Forestry Vocational School and so both teachers and students were all highly enthusiastic.
